When will the FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor be available in Ireland?
The Libre 2 Plus sensor will be available in Ireland from the 1st of October 2025. It will replace the Libre 2 sensor so if you currently use the Libre 2 sensor, we recommend you ask your healthcare professional to update your prescription to the Libre 2 Plus sensor.
Am I eligible for the FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor?
- If you are a current user of the FreeStyle Libre 2 system, please speak to your healthcare team about the Libre 2 Plus sensor from October 2025, to discuss updating your prescription.
- If you are a new user, you should also consult your healthcare team from October, to discuss suitability and eligibility for the Libre 2 Plus sensor.
Will I automatically be transferred over to the FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus sensor or do I have to request it from my doctor?

To allow as many people as possible who live with diabetes to access and benefit from the advancements of the technology, Abbott's Libre 2 Plus sensor is the same price per day as the Libre 2 sensor.
What’s new/different compared to the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor?
The Libre 2 Plus sensor can be worn up to 15 days and is indicated for children 2 years and older, whereas the Libre 2 sensor can be worn for up to 14 days and is indicated for children 4 years and older. The Libre 2 Plus sensor also demonstrates outstanding 15-day accuracy.1

Now that it’s a 15-day sensor, is the adhesive different compared to the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor?
No. The adhesive of the Libre 2 Plus sensor is the same as the one used for the Libre 2 sensor.
Do I need to update my FreeStyle LibreLink app to be compatible with the new sensor?

Abbott is always innovating. We’re delighted that in Ireland the Libre 2 Plus sensor is now available on prescription. The Libre 2 Plus sensor will replace the Libre 2 sensor so we recommend you ask your healthcare team to update your prescription at your next routine appointment.
