Yes! The NIHB program, managed by Indigenous Services Canada, provides FreeStyle Libre 2 coverage to eligible First Nations and Inuit clients who meet specific criteria (see more on this below).
The NIHB provides coverage for the FreeStyle Libre 2 system for people who are currently managing their diabetes with insulin. Please visit the NIHB program updates page for more details.
Coverage includes the FreeStyle Libre 2 system sensors and reader.
First, talk to your healthcare professional to get a prescription. If you qualify for reimbursement under the NIHB program, your healthcare team - usually your pharmacist - will contact the NIHB Drug Exception Centre and provide details about the prescription, prescriber and client. Upon approval of your request, your claim for the FreeStyle Libre 2 system will be processed like any other claim at the local pharmacy.
Coverage is limited to 1 reader every 3 years and 14 sensors every six months.
