Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Coverage for FreeStyle Libre 2

Yes! The NIHB program, managed by Indigenous Services Canada, provides FreeStyle Libre 2 coverage to eligible First Nations and Inuit clients who meet specific criteria (see more on this below).

The NIHB provides coverage for the FreeStyle Libre 2 system for people who are currently managing their diabetes with insulin.

Coverage includes the FreeStyle Libre 2 system sensors and reader.

First, talk to your healthcare professional to get a prescription. If you qualify for reimbursement under NIHB program, your healthcare provider will submit a Special Approval form to NIHB program on your behalf. Upon approval of your request, your claim for the FreeStyle Libre 2 system will be processed like any other claim at the local pharmacy.

Coverage is limited to 1 reader every 3 years and 14 sensors every six months.
