Does the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensor contain IBOA? What is IBOA?

No. IBOA has never been present in the FreeStyle Libre 3 Plus sensors*1. Abbott removed IBOA from all FreeStyle Libre systems’ sensors in 20202.

IBOA stands for isobornyl acrylate. It's a chemical compound used to manufacture plastic and adhesive materials such as those used in medical devices, including some continuous glucose monitors (CGMs)3.

IBOA, a skin allergen, can cause redness, itching, or irritation for some people — but not everyone will have this reaction3.

* Not made with this skin allergen. IBOA not detected at test method limit of detection of 0.0016μg per device.
