The FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor measures glucose levels from the interstitial fluid - a thin layer of fluid that surrounds the cells of the tissues in your skin. Glucose is also found in interstitial fluid because it moves there from blood vessels238.

When applied, the needle on the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor extends just past the skin into interstitial fluid where it can measure your glucose levels.
